Sadly José Fonte joined the list of Saints players that didn't get on the field for their countries this weekend.

José Fonte sat out his countries defeat to France on Saturday evening although given that this was his first call up for the Portuguese squad and that with a new manager at the helm they are in transition he was probably happy to be involved.

After an embarrassing defeat to Albania in their opening group game the Portuguese put out a strong side in this friendly against the French and the emphasis was about getting some pride back, but for Fonte this meant sitting out the game on the bench.

On the French bench Morgan Schneiderlin came on with six minutes to go to push himself that bit nearer to being a starter regularly in the line up.

Another Saint on international duty was Artur Boruc although again he sat it out as the Poles beat Germany for the first time ever.
