The Path To Wembley Is Opening Out
Wednesday, 29th Oct 2014 08:32

If Saints can win at Stoke City this evening in the Capital One Cup then they have a great chance or reaching the semi finals.

With respect to every other team in the competition if Saints can beat Stoke tonight and reach the last eight of the Capital One Cup, they have a great chance of reaching the semi finals of the competition, last nights results saw two Championship sides in Bournemouth and Derby go through alongside league One Sheffield United plus Chelsea and Liverpool from the Premier.

Both Liverpool and Chelsea struggled to overcome their respective opposition, this not helped by the fact that they both played weakened sides.

Tonight the last three ties are played meaning that the winners of Man City V Newcastle and Tottenham V Brighton will join either Stoke or Saints in the last eight.

Given that the other 3 Premier League sides playing tonight are likely to play weakened sides themselves what this is telling us is that if Saints can overcome the Potters then the path to Wembley is opening out and should hold no fears for Saints.

The indications so far in this competition is that Ronald Koeman, unlike some of his fellow top flight managers is taking this competition very seriously and so he should, it offers us a great chance of some long awaited glory and of course a return to European competition that we have only graced once in the last thirty years.

I cdo not underestimate any of the sides left in the draw for the Quarter Finals should we ourselves be one of them, after all Bradford City then of League two reached the finals two years ago beating Premier League opposition along the way, every one in it is capable of a shock or two, however this is a great opportunity opening out, lests grasp it with both hands.
