Steven Davis had to retire from the fray shortly before half time against Leicester City on Saturday but he should hopefully not be out for too long.

From a Saints point o view the injury to Davis has come at the best time in that with an International break meaning that it will be over two weeks before our next game the player has plenty of time to recover.

Davis went off with a problem with his hamstring and it will be assessed on Monday although it looks certain to keep him out of Northern Ireland's squad, the club are hopeful though that it won't be too bad and a week or two of rest and treatment will get it back to 100%.

That could see him fit to return for the trip to Aston Villa in just over two weeks and that extra two days due to the game being put back to the Monday for TV could be the difference between Davis being involved with the squad for that game o being rested.

Having said that if Davis isn't quite fit for that game Saints have plenty of options, not least Jack Cork who replaced him on Saturday and put in a decent shift including putting the cross in for Pellet to hold up for the vital first goal.

But the main help will be the International break meaning that Davis won't miss as many games as he might have had it say happened a fortnight ago.

WestSussexSaint added 07:32 - Nov 10 Assuming Davis isn't ready for Villa I think Saturday proved that Cork, Schneiderlin and Wanyama can all play together in the midfield. In fact Davis' performance on Saturday was below his normal high standards (possibly feeling the injury before it forced him off) and Cork coming on improved our play.

ThereIn76 added 08:19 - Nov 10 Others may view it differently, but I think it'll be a real shame if Davo isn't able to captain his country this week as they look to continue their brilliant start to their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign. He's the international skipper who never gets the attention or recognition he should - apart from the fact that three successive Saints managers have considered him vital to the team.

Boris1977 added 09:44 - Nov 10 Well said Therein76 - tireless player whose contribution is always looked over by the plumdits - one of the road sweepers as Laurie Mac would say who is vitally important in any successful team. The problem with being successful in the top flight is that the chances are your team will be full of internationals.
