Pochettino Whinges About Playing In The Europa League
Thursday, 27th Nov 2014 11:10

Mauricio Pochettino is once again whinging about the stresses of playing in the Europa League.

Ex Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino is already kicking off at the fact that Spurs are again being forced to play only three days after competing in the Europa League, a competition that whilst at Saints he declared would be the downfall of the club.

For poor old Poch its Champions league or nothing although he fails to notice that both Liverpooland Arsenal who played last night have exactly the same gap between their games in Europe and their Premier League fixture on Saturday that his Spurs team have.

Pochettino points to the fact that on all four occasions Spurs have lost at home this season it has followed Europa League matches, although he surprisingly fails to mention that his team that played in Europe was totally different to the one he put out for the Premier League fixture and those defeats might have more to do with his own failings as a manager than the fact Spurs are in Europe.

The Spurs faithful though will disagree with him about the relevance of the competition, they know that any club with top four aspirations needs to be playing in Europe if it is to attract and keep the quality of player who will get yo into a Champions league qualification position.

Ronald Koeman certainly knows that and is trying to build foundations at Saints that will enable them to compete on several fronts during a season and achieve success, football clubs should be about trying to win things and compete to the highest level attainable, that means not only in the Premier League but in qualifying for Europe as well, at Saints Pochettino did not understand that as he was more worried that it would mean taking a step back with the hassle of Europa League qualification that it being the springboard to the Champions league, now he is struggling at Spurs he is trying to use it as an excuse for their poor form rather than looking at his own failings.

I think MoPo's attitude to the 'Europa League' with us was a getting his excuses in first one. After all - we came 8th under him which didn't qualify for anything. He has never won a trophy or qualified for Europe. If Spurs come 6th this season and qualify for it he will suddenly see it as an achievement.
