Burnley's Strike Force 100% Saints
Thursday, 11th Dec 2014 10:20

The trip to Turf Moor will see several of Burnley's attackers have to put aside their boyhood allegiances and try to help their adopted new ones stay in the Premier league.

Part of East lancashire could be called Little Southampton judging by the number of Saints supporting players Burnley have in their squad.

Danny Ings and Lukas Jutkiewicz were both born and bred in Southampton and Sam Vokes nearby in the New Forest, all were boyhood Saints fans.

Jutkiewicz was spotted by Saints playing in the Tyro league and joined the youth system, however he suffered from shin splints and drifted back into the Tyro league with Millbrook based Brendon before being spotted by Swindon and the rest as they say is history.

He has shown he is not afraid to score against us as well netting for Coventry three years ago, luckily it was a mere consolation as Saints went on to win 4-2, later in the same season he played for Middlesbrough against us, he didn't score but Boro won 2-1 to put a dent in our Promotion hopes for another week.

Danny Ings is from Netley Abbey on the Eastern fringes of the City, he too was spotted in the Tyro League and joined Saints but was released aged 10 to go back to the Tyro where he was spotted by Bournemouth and subsequently joined Burnley following current Cherries boss Eddie Howe when he left for his sojourn at Turf Moor.

Sam Vokes was born in Lymington to a Saints supporting Father and grew up a Saints fanatic, he too spent time at Saints aged 10 but was released and joined Bournemouth, however he sadly suffered a cruciate injury similar to the one that Jay Rodriguez did back in March, Vokes is almost ready for a return to first team action, but the Saints game could come a little too soon

Like Jutkiewicz both Ings and Vokes have scored against Saints, both netting for Burnley in last seasons FA Cup 3rd round when we beat the Clarets 4-3 at St Mary's

Hopefully none of them will come back to haunt us on Saturday although if rumours are to be believed Danny Ings may well be heading home in January, however we al know what rumours are.
