Saints manager Ronald Koeman has confirmed that a January comeback for Jay Rodriguez is now highly unlikely.

Saints have suffered yet another injury blow with the news that Jay Rodriguez has suffered another setback on the comeback trail.

Although not serious it now means that the player wll not be likely to return to first team contention until February at least, a disappointment to the player himself and the club who had hoped that a January return would bolster a drive forward in the new year.

It will also make for an interesting scenario as to whether Tottenham Hotspur will come a calling in January and whether if they do, Saints faced with a player who is approaching the last yearof his contract and with no guarantees he will return to his former fitness and form, may with a big offer on the table choose to cash in now and reinvest the money in January.

Having said that surely it would be folly for Spurs to spend £20 million or so on a player who will not have played in nearly a year by the time he has returned.
