Wins At Old Trafford And St James Park Will Mean Nothing If We Don't Win Next Two Games
Wednesday, 28th Jan 2015 13:56

Saints fans are still basking in the glory of the recent win at Old Trafford and the clinical method we despatched Newcastle, however if we fail to win both of our next two games all of the good work will have gone to waste.

There were not many Saints supporters who looked at our three Premier League games scheduled for January and forecast a nine point haul, however that is what we achieved and these wins catapulted up the to the heights of third and not only that gave us breathing space between us and our rivals.

But that breathing space doesn't leave us much room to manouevre so it is vtal that we capitalise on the good work by firstly beating Swansea City on Sunday and then following it up by winning at Queens Park Rangers.

If we do that then we will have created a gap to defend in that in the next two rounds of games many of the chasing pack will be playing each other.

This weekend see's Liverpool host West Ham, but it is the following week or so where points can be dropped by the clubs currently behind us en masse.

Firstly there is Tottenham V Arsenal, then there is Everton V Liverpool & West Ham V Man Utd, in that weekend , so if Saints can get six points in the bag there is going to be a big gap between us and most of the chasing pack.

It the mid week fixtures we then have a chance to put West Ham to the sword, if we can do that then we will have gone a long way to a top five spot, given that Liverpool host Spurs.

So it is a question of keeping winning and the next three games are ideal opportunities to do so whilst at the same time watching many of our rivals drop points due to playing each other not to mention if they drop points elsewhere, another nine point haul will see us on 51 points and I would say virtually guaranteeing fifth spot if results truly go our way, it has been suggested that nine more wins would see us guaranteed top four, to get three under our belts quickly will really put pressure on our rivals chasing us.

We have done the hard work in beating Newcastle, Manchester United & indeed Arsenal in January, now we have to make sure that it all doesn't go to waste and we put our foot on the gas and leave the rest trailing in our wake.

Don't understand why the wins at old Trafford and st James park would have been wasted. If we lose our next two we'd still have 6 more points on the board and be higher up the table than if we'd lost those at old Trafford and St James.
