Football Supporters Federation Calls On Clubs To Treat Fans Fairly
Thursday, 12th Feb 2015 16:59

The Football Supporters Federation has called for Premier League Clubs to use increased income from television rights etc to reduce costs for football fans.

Malcolm Clarke, chair of the Football Supporters' Federation, said:

"Billions of pounds have fallen into clubs' laps and there's a real chance here for them to do something positive with that wealth.

"3% of the increase alone from the latest domestic Premier League deal would pay for a £20 away ticket cap, in line with the FSF's Twenty's Plenty campaign.

"The increase equates to £40+ for every fan, at every game; clubs have to do more for fans, lower league and grassroots football.

"Over the past couple of decades players, owners and agents have all gained from this windfall, and now it's time for fans to benefit via lower prices."

Clarke is right that Premier League clubs have long been milking their supporters for far too long, it is time for the clubs to realise that eventually the bubble will burst and we will be left with a top flight league in stadiums with swathes of empty seats and no atmosphere.

But it stretches farther than just the Premier league and until we have a situation where the wealth is spread across all four divisions rather than just an elite few clubs, three of which stare financial ruin in the face each season after being relegated English football cannot prosper.
