Ronald Koeman Named As Manager Of The Month For January
Friday, 13th Feb 2015 10:33

Ronald Koeman has deservedly won the barclays Premier League manager of the month for January 2015 after taking Saints up to 3rd in the League and keeping them there.

Ronald Koeman is shaping up to be one of the best managers that Southampton Football Club has ever had, he still has a way to go before he matches the feats of Ted Bates and Lawrie McMenemy, but if this season continues he will have pretty much eclipsed all who have followed the undisputed (so far) two greatest managers of the club.

This is Koeman's second award since he arrived at Saints having won it in September when he steered the team to three straight League wins plus a Capital One Cup victory at Arsenal, a tremendous feat back then after only being at the club for a little over two months and having to rebuild the core of the first team starting XI.

The Saints boss saw off competition from Tottenham's ex Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino, Liverpool’s Brendan Rodgers and Stoke manager Mark Hughes to win the award and that perhaps makes it all the sweeter in that in the case of Pochettino & Rodgers they were big catalysts in the turmoil of the summer and their behaviour as men left a lot to be desired, indeed Pochettino could not stop himself at having a swipe at Koeman last week.

If Koeman can land a third monthly award this season then surely it would mean that Saints would be looking at a top four finish and if they did that then the manager of the year award would more than likely be winging its way to Koeman's desk.
