Will Jay Rodriguez Have The Final Say In This Season
Wednesday, 25th Mar 2015 13:41

According to media reports Jay Rodriguez is back in training and could be looking at being in first team contention for the final five games of the season.

I said earlier in the season that perhaps the one thing that might swing this season into Saints favour was the return of Jay Rodriguez, but in the six months or so since i made that bold statement we have yet to see hide nor hair of him.

Now comes the good news that he has returned to light training and could be ready to play in a U21 fixture in as little as fortnight and if he comes through that with no complications then he could be ready for place on the first team bench as early as April 25th and the visit of Tottenham Hotspur.

That would be ironic seeing that Jay Rod has been linked with them from the moment he was stretchered off against Manchester City almost a year ago, but in fairness literally everyone at the club has been linked to a move from St Mary's to Spurs.

But when you are chasing something be it a place in the top four or safety from relegation, often there is a factor that gets you over the finishing line and leaves your rivals floundering.

That factor for Saints could just be the return of Jay Rodriguez, OK he might not be fit enough to even start a game, but his firepower off the bench along with his realtive freshness having not played a game all year might be vital in a game and just turn a draw into a win, something we have struggled to do in recent weeks.

Every club needs a boost and we perhaps will have one more than most if we can get him back.
