Saints Have To Concentrate On This Season
Saturday, 4th Apr 2015 09:00

There is a lot of transfer speculation surrounding Southampton Football Club in the media, but Saints need to concentrate on this season and the next one will take care of itself.

You cannot pick up a newspaper or log on to the football websites on the internet without reading a story about one Saints player or another who will not be St Mary's next season.

But before any of that can happen there are still 8 more games to play and every one of these fixtures is vitally important to Southampton Football Club and ultimately will shape the destiny of the club.

So the staff, supporters and indeed the players of Saints need to put the speculation about next season to on side and concentrate on these games.

From the players point of view their performance in these games will shape their entire careers, whether it be at St Mary's or otherwise what they do in these 8 games will not only help the club but will determine whether their lot next season is to play in the Champions League, the Europa League or spend next season in front of the TV during European weeks.

It is no use the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin or Nathan Coyne already having their heads in North London or Manchester, they have to concentrate on the now.

But it is not just from a Saints point of view, the transfer window is a long way from being open yet and those members of our squad who will be coveted by others should realise that what they do in these final games will affect whether a prospective purchaser does actually go for them or look elsewhere.

Manchester United and Arsenal or indeed any so called big club will want players who can perform when the pressure is on and now is the time when the spotlight will be on our squad to see whether we can do it.

There is a good reason as to why so few lesser teams have broken into the top four or even qualified for the Europa League through league position and that is the ability to perform under pressure, plenty of teams have tried, indeed plenty have managed like Saints this season to hang on to a top four spot into the second half of the season, but why have they not managed to keep it going to the end of the season ?

The answer is simple as I say ability to perform under pressure, or "bottle" as some would also call it.

Now we have to how that bottle ourselves, we have managed to o a little further than many in keeping up our challenge so we have to just hold our nerve and play without fear for a little longer.

If we do so then the rewards will come, not only for Southampton Football Club but for its players, whether its at St Mary's or elsewhere, we as a club should not fear that, sadly it is our ay forward at least for the near future, we have to keep moving forward and keep strengthening and if that means by selling players at a premium rate then so be it.

So he moral is simple, concentrate on this season and next season will take care of itself.
