Saints Have Restarted Contract Talks With Jay Rodriguez

Saints have opened up contract talks with Jay Rodriguez after four month delay to to injury set back.

Saints have started talking again to Jay Rodriguez about a new five year deal originally the club had been in discussion before Xmas about a possible new deal, but this was put on hold back in January when the player suffered a set back in his return to training.

It was though then that it was best to put the talks to one side and concentrate on getting the player back to fitness and let him put his time and energy into that, now with Rodriguez back in full training and the possibility of him playing some part in one or two of the final matches talks are reopening.

Whether making that public is in anyones best interests is open to question, on one hand it makes a rod for the club's back in that if weeks go by without him signing a new deal, then speculation rises that he has turned it down and will be seeking a transfer.

On the other hand it sets out the clubs stall and ambition to sign the player up and continue the good progress made this season, certainly it has stirred up a hornets nest in the media, with many outlets putting up headlines suggesting that the likes of Spurs hopes of signing Rodriguez have been dashed due to the talks starting again.

The reality of the situation is that little has changed since January and J Rod is no more likely to go or stay than he was back then, however the club have made it clear that they want him which has to be a good sign to Rodriguez that the club has the ambition.

I find it odd that we haven't heard from JR. There was footage of him rejoining training and other players were saying it was good to have him back, yet nothing from him.
Even more puzzling as I seem to remember when he was playing, he was often in front of the cameras.
I would have thought he could at least have said thanks for the support he received. Maybe he's keeping his head down during the contract talks so he doesn't say anything that could be misconstrued.
