Celtic Star Linked with Saints And Everton
Sunday, 17th May 2015 18:20

Southampton are again being linked with Celtic's Dutch central defender Virgil Van Dijk after the player confirmed he is likely to leave the Scottish club.

Saints were heavily linked with Van Dijk last summer before eventually signing Florin Gardos and Toby Alderweireld and now those rumours are resurfacing after Van Dik himself let slip he would probably be moving clubs in the summer.

Celtic are now resigned to losing the Dutchman and of course Saints are again being quoted as being interested according to the media, but if we want to land the 23 year old then we will seemingly have to compete with Everton along with possibly several other Premier clubs.

The Koeman factor could come into play in this transfer and it would also be an advantage to Saints if they were to be able to offer the player Europa League football next season.

Saints could also be in pole position due to the financial clout we have in that we still have excess money from last summers transfer dealings so therefore unlike some clubs we do not have to sell to fund big purchases, this could give us an advantage in that we would be able to do a deal quickly, something that Celtic would want so they themselves can in turn sort out Van Dijk's replacement

Do we need him if Toby stays? We have two equally good CBs on the books already. Money better spent elsewhere and midfield is the obvious area if Morgan leaves and with Steve Davis getting older. We need a really creative AMF who can score goals and a rock solid DMF to help Victor through a season.
