Aston Villa Get Serious About Gueye ! Will Saints Respond.
Thursday, 2nd Jul 2015 09:55

Aston Villa have reportedly agreed a fee with Lille for Saints target Idressa Gueye, will this now stir Saints into action.

Saints have been linked with the 25 year old Senegalese International along with several other defensive midfielders across Europe, but so far don't appear to have made too much of a move, this could perhaps be due to the uncertainty surrounding Morgan Schneiderlin's future and the failure for any of the clubs linked with him to make serious bids so far.

But with the transfer window across Europe now fully open Saints now need to move fast to ensure that they land their first choices.

Aston Villa seem to be doing that and it has been suggested that they have agreed a fee with Lille and that the player might be going for a medical in Birmingham before the weekend.

That means that if Saints are interested in Gueye then they need to move fast or risk seeing him join Villa, indeed it may already be too late to hi jack any potential move.

Do Saints really need a new midfielder as a priority? As you previously said, a new mobile Centre Back is vital.
Next season's success will hang on the fitness and form of Jay-Rod

I can understand the wish to delay until the Schneiderlin situation is sorted out (and a preliminary agreement for someone else may be in place anyway) but the doubt could run on and on, and we could end up with our 4th or 5th choice replacement.
We don't appear to be as pro-active as I would like, we're just re-acting after the event(s) which puts us in a position of weakness and may contribute to us losing Alderweireld.

Yes, we should just give up on the hope of signing Toby cheaply because he seemed to like us but trump Spurs and make Athletico an offer they can't refuse...he's worth it.

My view on Toby is that he will go where HE wants to go. I think he is being a a little bit disingenuous with this 'it is out of my hands' lark. Spurs will be able to offer him higher wages but I doubt they will outbid us by enough to force the issue. Players at this level rarely go anywhere against their wishes...

When was Jack Cork's contract due to run out? Even if it meant risking losing him for nothing this summer I thought at the time he was sold it was a surprising decision with MS having 'itchy feet'.

The lure may be London for Toby of course, if you're going to spend three years in a foreign country Southampton wouldn't be many people's first choice as a place to live especially when young. 10m people choose to live in London, 0.25m choose to live in Southampton, free choice you do the math it tells it's own story
