Saints Make Surprising Late Signing Monday, 31st Aug 2015 17:14 Saints have made a surprise signing with just over 24 hours to go before the end of the transfer window.
Saints have signed young Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Harry Lewis, the 17 year old goalkeeper is one for the future though and will be joining the Club's uner 18 & under 21 squads.
Lewis has yet to play for Shrewsbury's first team although he has played for England at U16 & U18 level.
He joins Saints on a three year contract and his signing is seen by Saints as a long term option rather than one that will see him challenge for a place in the first team in the near future.

Forecast, Cropper and , further back, Smith from Brentford suggests Les isn't very good at picking goalies of the future. I ask ,again, why can't the Academy ever produce one?

Hopefully he fulfils his potential- send Gazza out on loan for his last chance to see if he is up to the needs of EPL, and hope Kelvin stays fit till FF recovers.

dfavepid don't forget we have Dave Watson on board these days and he and Les wear FA hats as well as Saints hats when recruiting young English players. They may develop well and prosper and leave us so we lose out in the long term but England win overall. Surely you didn't think it was by co-incidence that so many Saints Juniors and under 21's from the Academy get to play for England youth teams and become captains. We are not only a feeder club for the BIG6!

We have never kept a goalkeeping coach for any resonable length of time, and that don't help in the development of young keepers. Keepers take on average 4 more years to develope than out fielders, and most of the better keepers that have come through ranks lately have had a consistent GK coach. So much so they have become mentors to the young ones. Gazza's seems to have turned the corner, and is is showing his potential with Dave Watsons and KD's help, and it's important for further development we keep that partnership together as long as we can. Some say Gazza would benefit from a seasons loan at another club. I disagree, he needs the stability of Watson and Kelvin for another season at least. KD is in his last 3 months of obtaining his license, when he gets that I think he will retire from playing, and the importance of keeping Gazza here "in house" will be vindicated.

Blogs 31 bloggersKnees-up Mother Brown #19 by wessex_exile February, and the U’s enter the most pivotal month of the season. Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process. What’s the excuse going to be today Steve – shocking pitch, faking head injuries, Mexican banditry or some other bit of sour-grapery bullsh*t? Southampton Polls |
