Saints V Swansea A Few Facts
Saturday, 26th Sep 2015 09:24

If we look at a few historical facts about this fixture, then don't be expecting to see a feast of goals.

When Saints play Swansea the ball isn't picked out of the net very often, the last 3 fixtures have all finished 1-0 to the away side and in the six fixtures played so far against the Swans since our return to the Premier League only 7 goals have been scored.

Swansea have conceded just 3 goals in their last 5 League games the same number that Saints conceded in their last home game against Manchester United.

Saints are the most prolific crossers of the ball in open play in the Premier League this season getting in 131 crosses in their 6 games played so far, an average of 22 per game.

Therefore it should come as no surprise that 3 of Saints 7 league goals have been headers , although in contrast strangely none of the 6 goals at MK Dons on Wednesday night were headers.

Last season Saints only scored 3 headed goals in the entire season, perhaps the arrival of Virgil Van Dijk will change that.

As mentioned earlier Swansea have only conceded just 3 goals in 5 games , but they have not scored in the last 2, meaning that if Saints shut them out this afternoon it will be the first time they have gone 3 games without scoring since May 2013.

Swansea have won just 3 of the 16 Premier League games they have played in September drawing 4 and losing 9, lets hope that we pile on the misery to make this another miserable month.

Graziano Pelle could go top of the Premier League scoring charts this afternoon, he currently has 4 goals with only Callum Wilson of Bournemouth & Riyad Mahrez of Leicester ahead of him with 5 apiece.

Sadio Mane is top of the Saints assists list with 3 and he too could go top this afternoon as he is only 1 behind Wes Hoolihan & David Silva.

Mane is also the most fouled Saints player so far this season having been brought down 15 times although he is a little way behind Mark Noble on 19.

Graziano Pelle is the biggest Saints sinner this season having committed 6 fouls and he is joined by Cedric Soares on the same number, although most of Cedric's were in the first half of the opening game against Newcastle. However their combined total of 12 is exactly the same as ex Saint Morgan Schneiderlin has committed for United this season
