Jordy Clasie Makes Comeback Against Ajax.
Thursday, 8th Oct 2015 16:13

Jordie Clasie has returned to match action with a run out in a behind closed doors friendly against Dutch team Ajax this afternoon.

The game played at Staplewood was aimed at giving players of both clubs not involved in International duty this week a run out to keep them sharp and a strong Saints side included Clasie, Jay Rodriguez, Juanmi, Gaston Ramire and Cuco Martina.

It was Rodriguez who crossed for Ryan Seager to head the opener with Juanmi making it 2-0 , although the Spaniard has played little in the Premier League this season he has been impressive in the cups and this goal would have given Ronald Koeman food for thought when the Premier League campaign continues after this break.

Ajax pulled a goal back with a penalty conceded by Cuco Martina but there was no further scoring.

Clasie would have been happy with getting an hour in and will see that as good progress towards a comeback after being out of action now for over two months.

He will hope if there is no reaction and he can continue the good work in training next week that he can force his way into contention for the visit of Leicester City, although its highly unlikely he would be straight back in the starting XI, h would hope to get a place on the bench.

The international break came at the wrong time for us. We was on fire and I pray it continues. Stuffing Chelsea 3-1,Swansea 3-1 and mkdons 6-0 has to have to players pumped right up. And for Shane long and steven Davis to score last night is a right bonus for confidence boosts

Just who will be dropped to allow Clasie into the side?

What it does give us is a terrific variety of options in midfield to change our play depending o circumstances in the match. The trick for Koeman will be to keep them all on-board in a rotation system if they are all playing well. Nice problem to have especially as Steve Davis is coming into the best form of his career and JWP improves by the match.
