Saints Make Bid For Non League Teenage Striking Sensation Wednesday, 18th Nov 2015 09:48 Saints are apparently joining Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Arsenal & a host of other clubs in wanting to sign the hottest property in non league at present. The source of this story is the Cheltenham Echo who claim that Saints have made a five figure bid for Cheltenham Town striker Luke Thomas, at this level local papers have close links with the clubs in their catchment area, so it is fair to say the Cheltenham Echo has and that their source is very good. They say that he attracted Saints attention when he went on Cheltenham's pre season tour to Portugal and trained with Benfica. But it is potential that Saints are looking to sign as at 16 Thomas is one for the future, indeed he has yet to make his debut for Cheltenham yet, although with the Robin's top of the Conference that is unsurprising. He has appeared on the bench four times but has of yet not got on to the field, but that seems a matter of time. Meanwhile he has been making his name for the Robin's youth sides as well as the FA Youth cup having scored 14 league goals plus 6 in the FA Youth Cup. Saints though would prefer that he didn't play a first team game for the club, they if reports are correct would prefer that he sign for Saints before the rest of the interested club's get their act in gear. Certainly St Mary's would be an attractive destination for Thomas, yes f he went to Bristol City who are also being linked he might get his League debut earlier, but if he went to Chelsea then history suggests he would sink without trace. But with Saints he would get a good grounding in the academy and the opportunity to get into first team contention.
