Saints Set To Recall Loan Signing Duo
Friday, 20th Nov 2015 11:59

Saints are about to recall out on loan pair Sam Gallagher and Jack Stephens from MK Dons & Middlesbrough respectively

Saints look set to recall Gallagher and Stephens from their respective loans, but Saints fans should not worry there isn't an injury crisis at St Mary's, it is just the duo are getting no game time and therefore would be better off training with the Saints academy team or being loaned out to a club who would give them a starting spot to aid their development.

Sam Gallagher has not played for MK Dons since mid September and although he has been on the bench for most of the games has not looked like getting a game, likewise Jack Stephens who enjoyed a successful ime at Swindon Town last season, he has only had 11 minutes in the Championship for Middlesbrough and does not look likely to get much more unless Boro suffer an injury crisis.

This is no good for their progression, both are at a stage in their career when they need to be getting experience and proving their ability to either break into the Saints squad or to forge a career elsewhere.

If they are not getting games in the Championship then they will be worried that is not sending the right message to their parent club Saints.

Saints themselves want the players playing games and although they cannot demand that from a club that takes a player on loan, if that player cannot get decent game time for whatever reason then it is pointless im being at that club.

Good! Totally agree that there is no point in leaving them if they are not getting games. As they say, bring them back and let them train with the academy or let them go to a club who will use them.

Wow, how absolutely 'Caring & Responsible'.Even if I wasn't a Saints fan I'd be impressed by this. No doubt Saints will lose a few quid, but that doesn't matter. Looking after our youngsters and giving them the best oppurtunities possible is the best thing to do for everyone. Let this be a rallying call to the best talents out there. History is showing that at Southampton if you have the talent the sky is the limit.

So often young players who do well here fail to step up to the plate in a different system at a different club and it is not only our youngest kids who suffer this problem. It is easy to forget how unsettling it can be to leave home for the first time. For young footballers it must be especially traumatic because often they leave their real homes relatively early to join the Academy, so the relationship these young lads build with the club and people in it and with whom they stay is akin to a second home.

The Southampton Way maybe cossets these lads too much so that they are not fully prepared for life outside our cocoon. It's too glib and easy to mutter "well, they are professionals so should just get on with it". They are young, immature with fragile emotions and maybe we should understand that some things in our system may need to change to better adapt these lads for the rocky and tortuous journey that a life in professional football can be.

Sam should have been a regular at a decent L1 side TBH. There is nothing wrong with starting in L1 as Ricky Lambert
