Liverpool Will Play Reserve Keeper Against Saints
Tuesday, 1st Dec 2015 09:17

Liverpool have played reserve keeper Adam Bogdan in their previous two Capital One Cup games and are set to keep faith with him at St Mary's.

Liverpool look set to play reserve keeper Adam Bogdan against Saints as they have done in the previous two rounds against Carlisle and Bournemouth.

Bogdan was signed from Bolton in the summer and has yet to feature for the Reds in the Premier with Simon Mignolet usually preferred for league games, meaning Bogdan has only these two games to his name for the Anfield club.

Although he is 28 and had been at Bolton since the summer of 2007 the Hungarian keeper does not have a great number of games under his belt.

He only established himself as number 1 at the Reebok Stadium in the second half of season 2011/12 as Bolton headed towards relegation, meaning that only around two dozen of his 103(1) league appearances for the Trotters came in the top flight.

That is not a great number for a keeper of his age and the truth is in his final season for Bolton 2014/15 he was not always first choice managing only 10 League appearances.

In the summer he joined Liverpool on a free transfer, but so far has only played the two aforementioned Capital One Cup games.

Whether Bogdan in goal will be an advantage for Saints is yet to be seen, on one hand he is a keeper who has barely played in the last two years, but on the other he was once a promising talent who looked likely to enjoy a good career in the top flight of English football.

This has the capability to go either way, Saints will hope that the way it does go is that Bogdan will find it hard to adapt to his first real test in the Liverpool goal and will not enhance his reputation.

Like us, they made plenty of changes in the previous 2 cup games, so perhaps they will do the same tomorrow. They do however have Countinho back from injury, plus Sturridge and Henderson made the bench on Sunday and also Lucas is back from suspension. They could fields strong team, but hopefully two games in 4 days for those recovering from injury will prove to be too much.
Not seen much team news for us, but hopefully Cedric will be back. Fonte may be back, but then maybe he could do with being benched?
As it is a quarter final, we need our strongest side out and no messing with the side like previous rounds or last season at Sheffield Utd. COYS
