Should There Be A Fans Garden Of Remembrance At St Mary's ?
Tuesday, 2nd Feb 2016 09:42

Some football grounds have an area set aside at their Stadiums for the remembrance of supporters no longer with us, it it time for Saints to do this for supporters.

Saints have an all Saints day in November where they have a minutes silence for departed supporters, but is this really enough, some club's like Liverpool go a lot further and consult with supporters about fitting tributes to those deceased and have focal points at the stadium where fans can go to remember loved ones who have died and either do something physical and lay flowers or just stop and spend a few minutes remembering on an anniversary.

Blackburn have a garden of remembrance, there is a statue of Jack Walker as a focal point along with a nicely laid out spot including a bench where supporters can remember those who are no longer here.

So is it time that Saints did the same ?

There is plenty of room around the stadium to do this and I'm sure that many Saints fans would welcome it, indeed if the feature included a statue of Markus Liebherr, there would not be a Saints fan who would object to that as he is still much loved for everything he does for the club and indeed his work goes on through his daughter Katharina.

So what do you as a Saints supporter think of this idea ? watch the video below and then give your thoughts in the comments section below.

I don't see why not. SFC plays an important part in the lives of many people and death comes to us all. It would, however, be absolutely vital that it was properly maintained and looked after. There is nothing worse than a badly kept area of this sort.

Emphatically not, following football is not a religion.

You pay's your money you get entertained you go home. That's all there is to it. Nobody gets shot or wounded or rescues pals from behind enemy lines. For sure 32000 people roll up every week but I'll bet most of us know a maximum of 20 other people in the crowd, usually friends and family from outside and the few around you who you get to know over the years.

Please spare us from such mawkish false sentiment. We already have a scheme whereby those wishing to pay a tribute for their family or friend departed can do so by sponsoring a brick at SMS.

Got to say I don't think it's appropriate - and smacks of being mawkish. If, God forbid, we'd been involved in some kind of massive tragedy (Bradford or Ibrox etc) then yes, but otherwise no. Definitely no.
