Saints Looking To Push Into The Top Six At The Weekend !
Tuesday, 9th Feb 2016 21:20

Saints will be looking for a win on Saturday that could push them into the top six if West Ham fail to win in their visit to Norwich City.

Saints kick off at Swansea knowing that if they can do their job and beat Swansea City then they have taken the first step towards finishing the weekend in the top six.

The second step will come if West Ham United fail to win at Norwich City, Saints start the day two points behind the Hammers with both clubs having identical goal differences of +9.

That means a Saints win will be enough to leap frog West Ham if the Hammers fail to get all three points at Carrow Road.

If Saints do win then not only will they be looking towards East Anglia but further up the East coast to Wearside and Sunderland who take on fifth placed Manchester United, the Red Devils will still be favourites to beat a Sunderland side, but again a Saints win and a United defeat would take us within a point of Louis Van Gaal's underachievers.

So all to play for at Swansea City this weekend and another Saints win will leave us in a great position whatever the results elsewhere as it will put pressure on the teams around us.

Swansea have picked up recently after a dismal November, December and large part of January. Have they got the firepower to dent our defence in its current mood - I doubt it. Can we penetrate theirs? If we do it won't be by many as it's their defence that has shown resilience. They've unloaded some decent players but are said to be playing good possession football. If Romeu, Clasie and, I hope a returning Steve Davis can better their midfield we'll win.

Swansea are on a good run of late under their new boss who seems to have concentrated on tightening up the organisation of his defence - as indeed would most of us in a relegation scrap.

They are at home but I am not expecting them to play open flowing football from the back in their usual style, they are in trouble and need a more dogged and physical approach probably using 4-4-2 to shut us down early and stop us moving quickly.

We need an early goal to put the pressure on and force them to go forward. If we get it, my feeling is we'll then go on to win 2-0 but 0-0 is equally possible if we don't score early on with the risk of a late cheeky goal from Williams to knock us out.
