Koeman Gives Update On Jay Rodriguez
Thursday, 11th Feb 2016 21:22

Ronald Koeman has given an update on the progress of Jay Rodriguez ahead of the trip to Swansea City.

The Saints manager has revealed that Jay Rodriguez has edged nearer to returning to full training.

"He's closer, but maybe next week or the week after that he will be part of the team session,” said the Saints boss. “That's the next step.

“It takes a long time, he needs to be patient. It's not easy always to be patient, but we know his situation and we have the total confidence that he will come back like before.”

If Rodriguez can return for the final two months of the season it will give Koeman added firepower as Saints push towards hopefully achieving their highest top flight finish in over 30 years.

The return of Steven Davis has given Koeman a timely boost as he loses Victor Wanyama for well over a month and the Dutch manager knows that if he can come through that period with a good run then he will have a psychological advantage over Saints rivals for a top five finish if he has not only the returning Wanyama but a fit and raring to go Jay Rodriguez for the final games of the season.

We've not really been told why he has been out again for so long. There were murmurings about his "feet" but apart from swollen ankles what else would running do? Is there a risk this could all kick off again? No pun intended.

Something to do with a nerve is his foot I believe.
