Newcastle Game Heads For A Sell Out
Wednesday, 23rd Mar 2016 21:32

Saints game against Newcastle United is heading for a sell out despite there being over two weeks before the game.

Newcastle United might not be the most attractive of opponents these days but for Saints supporters that doesn't seem to matter as the game on April 9th looks set to sell out soon despite extra tickets being made available.

Most of the areas that usually are the last to sell out are now down to a few seats dotted around and even these are few and far between.

But Newcastle despite the fact that this game will be extremely important to them as they try to avoid relegation have sent back block 43 and not taken the full allocation. This would have been unheard of not long ago and perhaps highlights just why Premier League clubs really needed to agree a price cap on tickets for away supporters.

So around 800 seats in block 43 of the Northam were put on sale to home supporters, but these have gone quickly and a look at the on line ticketing system shows that perhaps half of these have already gone and the game could perhaps sell out quicker than any home game this season if sales continue at this brisk pace.

Even Liverpool and Chelsea did not sell out in such quick time in the home areas even with the help of both clubs taking a full allocation.

So the message is clear Saints supporters have that sneaking feeling that perhaps this season might turn out to be special after all.

You are missing the point, its not a price cap for away supporters in this case. The reason for Newcastle not selling their allocation is simple, the club will not take the full allocation incase they (Mike Ashley) have to pay for unused tickets. There is is also a large membership fee which must be paid before purchasing an away ticket. Newcastle ceased to be a sports club many years ago, the fans are tolerated as a necessary inconvenience in order to make money out of the premiership; its a soulless club now sadly

The other factor is that as I mentioned previously, as a season ticket holder, I was able to buy two extra tickets for this game a fortnight ago for friends. Couldn't get any for Liverpool.....

It's a chance for Saints to pour water on a drowning man and revel in doing so.
This fixture should be seen as a wake for the demise of a club whose supporters deserve better.

Newcastle have sent another block of tickets back now: 44. It looks like they'll only be bringing a few hundred fans down.

I can remember the first Newcastle games I went to at the Dell in the 60s when they brought no fans down at all but travel was more difficult back then.

In the early sixties an away supporter was a rarity. Still managed to get over 30k crammed into the dell tho'!
