Le Tissier And Lambert To Go Head To Head In A Penalty Shootout ! Monday, 2nd May 2016 18:32 Matt Le Tissier and Rickie Lambert are the penalty kings of Southampton FC, but which one is the ultimate penalty king ? Saints fans will soon find out ! Matthew Le Tissier took 48 penalties for Saints and missed only one, that being against Mark Crossley of Nottingham Forest who seemingly has a court named after him at the old Dell, Crossley Court being the only part of the development with a name that seemingly has no other Saints connection. Rickie Lambert took 34 and scored all of them. That means that both have very valid claims to be called the Saints penalty king, Rickie would lay his claim based on the fact that he never missed, whilst the man they call Le God would say that although he missed one, that he took far more and most of his were in the top flight whereas most of Rickie's were not. Now they are going to go head to head at half time in Kelvin Davis's testimonial on 17th May to put the record straight, between them they played 775 games for the club and both made the number 7 shirt their own. For my money I'm with Matt, as good as Super Rickie Lambert was and how special he was too us as we came back up through the Leagues, there will never be another Saints players who will do for Southampton Football Club what Le Tiss did, both during his playing career and in the 14 years since his retirement.
