Koeman Addresses Speculation About His Future Friday, 13th May 2016 15:01 Speaking at the press conference ahead of the crucial game against Crystal Palace Ronald Koeman has once again spoken of his commitment to the club. Ronald Koeman for probably the 20th week in a row has addressed questions asked by journalists at the press conference ahead of the weekend's game by confirming that he has a contract for another year at St Mary's and intends to honour that. He also reiterated that he would be sitting down to discuss an extension after the season was finished, in effect the same answer he has been giving for weeks now. The fina question put to Koeman though on this subject after media speculation about the vacant Everton job was perhaps the most telling. When asked "Your telling us that your future is staying right here at this football club" ? His answer was short and sweet "Yes" ! Now although Koeman would not be the first manager to say one thing and mean another, you do have the feeling that he is more honest than most, his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino spent months being evasive a couple of years ago when asked the very same questions, even he could not bring himself to blatantly say something that could be thrown back at him at a later date. It would have been easy for Ronald Koeman to be just as evasive, but he has chosen to be open and history tells us that he is a man of honour. Saints fans hope he signs a new deal soon, but the reality contracts do not have the same relevance to managers as they do players, a players contract these days locks in a transfer fee as long as it doesn't go into the last year, with a manager its different, there are no transfer fees just small compensation payments to clubs. So whether Ronald Koeman signs a new deal or now is not that relevant as to how much longer he stays at the club apart from the fact that the club want to give him bigger rewards for the great job he has done here. But he should be here for the next year at least and hopefully longer, you have the feeling though, with three first team players penning new deals this week, that the tide has turned that the current squad has great faith in the way we are moving forward and want to be a part of that progress.
