Sainst supporters are waiting anxiously for news about Ronald Koeman signing a new deal, the latest news from the club suggest that they and the manager are on the same wavelength.

Perhaps the most important part of Les Reed's statement on the club's official website comes near the end, it says simply.

“We’re now at a point, as Ronald has said himself, where we’re actually getting down to the detail of the contract, which is where agents and lawyers get involved.

“Everything is going very positively at the moment.”

Whilst Saints supporters would rather Ron had already put pen to paper, the reality is that contracts take time, the manager has already said he wants to see the clubs ambition matches his own and from the players who have signed new deals that does look the case, hopefully as Reed says club and manager are on the same wavelength now its for the lawyers and agents.

The full statement from our Director of Football said this.

“Talks are ongoing all the time, and there is never really a point where you can say ‘on this day we’ll starting talking’,” Reed told youtube.com/southamptonfc.

“Conversations go on all the time about planning for the future. Ronald has mentioned recently that he’s sat down with us at board level and talked about the five-year plan.

“There’s no point going into contract negotiations about finance and money unless you’re all on the same wavelength about where the club is going.

“If Ronald is committing himself to the club for a longer period of time, it’s important we talk about our ambitions being aligned and that we are still trying to achieve the same things.

“We’re now at a point, as Ronald has said himself, where we’re actually getting down to the detail of the contract, which is where agents and lawyers get involved.

“Everything is going very positively at the moment.”

Reed also confirmed that the summer transfer window is being discussed.

“Ronald and I have been talking for a long time about building towards the summer transfer window,” Reed added.

“You can see that with the extension of contracts to our own players to consolidate the core of the team going forward. That is another big step.

“You don’t just do that on any given day, that’s something I would sit down with Ronald and Ross Wilson (Director of Scouting & Recruitment) to discuss over a long period of time. All those conversations are about the future and what we’re building for.”

Hopefully it will be good news for Saints supporters in the next few weeks.

BUCK added 09:47 - May 25 It's a shame it's really only a 1 year extention. Ronald has played it exactly how he done it in Holland. End of next season well be in the same boat. Wish it was like a 4 or 5 year extention.
