Player Review 2015/16 ! Jordy Clasie
Sunday, 29th May 2016 12:30

There were high hopes for Jordy Clasie when he arrived from Feyenoord, but injury mean't his season took time to get going.

Jordy Clasie arrived with a great reputation in Holland where he was adored at Feyenoord, however his season was stopped in its tracks before it had begun when he was injured in his first competitive game for the club against Vitesse.

That meant that it was almost three months before he was fit to appear in another game, but the real issue was his lack of pre season and fitness, he had joined Saints mid pre season meaning that he had had little time at Feyenoord and not enough time at Saints and then he had to start all over again.

When he came back he initially struggled to adapt to the physical aspect of the Premier League and that was made worse by Saints embarking on an awful run where they would win only once in the league in nearly two months, however slowly but surely he started to show just what he could do.

He is one of those players like Steven Davis, those who fall into the unsung hero category, he is a neat and tidy player who can win a ball and move it quickly forward, he doesn't try the difficult ball, but ensures that we keep possession and turn defence into attack.

This style contrasted well with the other two holding midfield players and Clasie could was often used to get Saints into winning positions and then replaced by Oriol Romeu whose strength was closing down and harassing the opposition and seeing the game out.

It has been a baptism of fire for Clasie in his first season at the club, but he has shon he has the mental toughness to come through and I think we will see the best of Jordy Clasie next season when he has had a full pre season and now he knows what the Premier League is all about.

So a 7/10 for Clasie a good first season and it should be remembered that he has had that injury set back at the start.

Totally agree that next season we will see a different player. The lad has loads of ability and koeman obviously loves him. Think he will absolutely tear it up next year, especially when saints buy someone to compliment him and replace vic.

Have to agree with these viewpoints. I personally think that given a full pre-season, we will see a totally different Jordy, and we will see why Ronald was desperate to bring him in.
