Seemingly Manchester United are about to up the ante in terms of player recruitment after Jose Mourinho was announced as their new manager.

There has been a big gap in the media news stories in the past week, suddenly Sadio Mane is no longer being touted as a transfer target for Manchester United.

It seems that with the arrival of the "Special One" United are about to get serious in their pursuit of former glories and their strategy for doing that won't be recruiting players of the standard of Mane, but in looking to bring in top quality players.

The truth is that over the past few seasons their downfall has been signing players like Morgan Schneiderlin, Memphis Depay etc, players who have performed to a decent level but not at the highest platforms.

Sadio Mane would fall into that category and it seems that with the arrival of Mourinho, United feel that they now have a manager with the clout to once again bring the true creme de la creme to Old Trafford and that means Benzema Morata or Ibrahimoviv and not Mane.

The emergence of Marcus Rashford in the past few months also means that they are no longer desperate for an attacking player with pace and flair and Mourinho seems set to take the core of the squad who are World class and beef them up with some of the true big names of European football.

That being the case the name of Mane will be way down the list, although United have been admirers of him in the past year, they will be well aware that he is a player capable of some great things, but also that he lacks consistency and when you are trying to achieve at the highest levels as united are they cannot afford passengers as Memphis Depay and Adnan Janujaz have found out, they were great hopes for United but have been unable to deliver consistently despite showing flashes of brilliance.

So the arrival of Jose Mourinho has perhaps changed the career path of Sadio Mane, he is no longer being courted by United, if indeed he ever was.
