Saints Can Now March On !
Tuesday, 14th Jun 2016 11:48

The worst thing in life is uncertainty, now for Saints that uncertainty is over and we can now plan for the future again.

My stock phrase over the past few summers has been " It's not what has happened that matters, it is what you do next" ! That adage applies again this summer and we have to have faith that like the last two summers our board will get it right for the next move.

But the first part of that is ending the uncertainty of the last ten days or so, we now know Koeman has gone, we can thank him for what he has done over the last two years and now we can move foward again.

The reality is that as much as some would not care to admit it, we are where we are in the football pecking order, our task is not to win the League every year, but to punch above our weight, sixth for Manchester United is a disaster, for Saints it is a triumph, that is a fact of life, yes Leicester have shown that things can be done, but it is the exception not the rule.

That being the case we have to accept that the way for us to succeed is by having a solid strategy and continuing to implement that strategy, the fact that Koeman before his departure was in the top five longest serving managers in the Premier League, that tells you our situation in losing managers is not unique, the only difference is why a manager leaves a club, it can be for poor performance at the bottom of the table and as in the case of Louis Van Gaal it can be for performing poorly by only finishing fifth and winning the FA Cup, something that as 3/4 of the clubs in the Premier would see him having a statue erected.

Ronald Koeman is now gone, the only thing that matters now is who replaces him, hopefully our board will now get that right, certainly whoever takes over has a strong foundation to build on and the job will be easier than the one Ronald Koeman took on two years ago, that being the case I would rather have had him here for two years than not at all.

That is the way forward for Saints slowly building foundations till we get to the point where we are less of a stepping stone than we were before, that is the case now, although some will not accept that, we are now stronger and ready to continue moving forward.

WE now March On stronger than ever before.

It might turn out that RK wasn't liked by more staff than we have possibly been made aware of. There might now be a scenario where LR has free rein to bring in a coach, who runs the "squad" and doesn't have any say on transfers and LR therefore finally becomes the Supremo. He would then be able to push his agenda for playing Academy players, despite the actual fact that they are not Premiership standard. He can also replace Mane etc with Redmond for example and pat himself on the back for making possibly £19 ish profit. He might need to be reminded that he will have lost the club £15m? ish by selling Wanyama now rather than last summer. He doesn't seem to be the wonderful transfer king that you all think he is. It could turn out that good goes out and nowhere near as good comes in. I am flabbergasted that no-one seems to feel that this club is crying out for 2 or 3 attacking midfielders that are not only good,; but can actually SCORE a goal!! Saint are 33/1 for relegation at the moment. I am very worried that this next window will be extremely disappointing yet again and nobody seems to see that we need quality for 10's of millions just to stay where we are. There is NO quality depth to this squad and hasn't been for quite a while

Excellent article - I agree 100%.

The media will have us down as ready for another summer of turmoil and we need to get ahead of the game on it. Appoint a replacement quickly and wisely and make sure any departures are on our terms. We need someone at St Mary's to be telling the likes of Wanyama that if he wants to go he will go at the price WE set. If that's not met then he sees out his contract on the pitch, or if he prefers, training by himself. Les Reed is, of course, welcome to tell him that but it would have much more authority coming from the new man (as long as it is the right new man of course).
