Saints Looking To Bid For Serbian Winger.
Friday, 17th Jun 2016 08:53

Despite being managerless at present, the media have not stopped linking Saints with a number of high profile signings and the latest is from the Bundesliga.

Saints might not have a manager but the club still have their strategy in place and that means identifying players who will fit into the way that the team will play.

Saints are being linked heavily with Nathan Redmond of Norwich with one position in the squad that is lacking being an out and out winger, however they do not seem to be keeping all their eggs in one basket.

Latest name to be linked for this position in the squad is Serbian Filip Kostic with the Daily Mail claiming that Saints are already in talks with the player.

Kostic currently at Stuttgart is a long time target of Liverpool who were constantly the subject of media speculation towards the end of the past season that they would be signing Kostic in the summer , also interested are Borussia Dortmund and Valencia who were rumoured to be that close to a deal that he was being touted as signing for them this weekend.

Stuttgart do not want to lose him and they have offered him a new deal despite the fact that his current one does not run out for another 3 years, however they were relegated from the Bundesliga and the 23 year old having broken into the full Serbian side in the past year might be ready for a move and he has rejected that contract offer.

He is primarily a left sided winger although able to play in other positions, he signed for Stuttgart two years ago for six million euros, however he is likely to cost at least three possibly four times that now, with his release clause being 25 million euros, the likelihood though is that it would be around 15 million euros to sign him.

The fact that Kostic has not shown up on Saints radar before, at least not being publicly linked could suggest that he could be a player that our next manager could be interested in, certainly in talks with any new manager we would want to be hitting the ground running and that being the case looking at signings that he might be interested in.

If that is the case then that would suggest Frank De Boer, Kostic was at FC Groningen in Holland from 2012 to joining Stuttgart in 2014, he would therefore be well known to the former Ajax manager.
