Saints Linked With Yet Another Candidate
Sunday, 19th Jun 2016 20:43

With Rudi Garcia seemingly out of the frame a surprise name has come to the fore to take over from Ronald Koeman.

Rudi Garcia is being reported as having turned down the job as Saints manager, although it has to be said this is only heresay and it is common for a managerial candidate to hint that he has turned down a job as a rejection does not look good on the CV.

However a surprise name has appeared, that of former Inter Milan and Italy keeper Walter Zenga.

It is not only a surprise but also strange in that Zenga's managerial career is somewhat sparse on honours but plentiful in clubs he was worked for, the 56 year old having managed no less than 16 teams since his first job in 1998/99 season when he managed New England Revolution in the MLS.

Since then he has only once stayed at a club more than a year and that was for Saudi Arabian club Al Nasr.

His best period is a decade ago when in 2004/05 he led Steaua Bucharest to the Romanian League title although he appears to have been fired before the season ended, the following season he was at Red Star Belgrade and won a league & cup double, but again was gone after only a solitary season.

Since then it has pretty much been one club after another either in Italy or in the Middle East, but he has had little success and stayed at few of them very long.

So Zenga being linked with Saints is very strange, mind you it is the Sun who are claiming it to be true and we all know that their chief football reporter is our old friend Neil Ashton who already has wasted little time in stirring things up for Saints by claiming Koeman was forced out by Les Reed and although this article does not have his name on it, it has his hallmark and it seems to trying to panic Saints supporters by saying "Look at the calibre of manager you are now stooping to"

So I would be very surprised if Walter Zenga becomes manager of Saints, his CV just does not have anything on it that seems compatible with out stated requirements for the job.

Third person today I have seen spell hearsay wrong. My guess is that our next manager will not be Walter Zenga.

I thought I read somewhere that it is the Saints that are not keen on Rudi Garcia
