Saints May Miss Out On Hungarian Midfielder
Monday, 4th Jul 2016 15:32

Saints were keen on landing one of their targets before Claude Puel joined the club but the days spent whilst Puel acquainted himself with the club's transfer targets may mean one slips away.

Saints were reported as being quite close to a deal for Ferencvaros midfielder Adam Nagy, however Claude Puel asked the club to give him a day or so to evaluate Nagy and several other targets before going ahead with any deal and this delay may mean Saints miss out.

In the meantime Benfica have risen to the front of the race to sign Nagy and Saints along with Burnley and reportable Marseille may miss out.

This is of course like most transfer rumours only correct if you believe the media reports and it could be far from the truth and merely the players agent trying to start a Dutch auction between clubs and up the wages for his client.

Certainly Nagy is one of a number of players Saints are considering signing and perhaps Puel may be right if he has slowed things down on this deal, Nagy is not a player of great physical stature and in that terms looks to be very similar to both Jordy Clasie and Oriol Romeu.

If Puel is thinking along those lines then he may be right to not be too keen on the player, it does highlight that although our transfer system is good at identifying players, it still needs the input of ultimately the man who will pick the team.

Bit concerned about these delays. One would have hoped there would of been some discussion at the time of his appointment. Of more concern to me than this case however is the likelihood that Leicester look to be landing Ahmed Musa who would have been a reasonable stab at a replacement for Sadio Mane. Seems Reed has much to learn still.

Whether true or not and whether we were genuinely interested or not, the fact that we may have been slow hardly comes a surprise to me. We are slow when it comes to appointing managers and recruiting new players, but when it comes to selling or getting rid of them, we would get a gold medal for speed.

I would love this one to happen. Nagy is the real deal in DM. His technical ability is amazing and he can turn defence into attack in a heartbeat. He's brilliant with both feet too.

One issue is muscular strength though - he's no Wanyama in that department. But hes no slouch either - and way taller than Classie!

I would like to see those three (plus Harry Reed) competing for the DM spots. Great competition there.

I suspect this might be a bit of Agent talk in a bid to get Saints to commit.

Not convinced that Nagy would have been that great a signing. Rumour suggests that Musa will sign for Leicester on Wednesday and I understand the lure of CL football but if the fee accepted by CSKA is so far below his initial valuation I'd have hoped Saints might have upped the stakes. Can only hope that there are other exciting targets on the radar.
I know it's acting like a spoilt child but so many of Saints signings fit the "one for the future"model'd really enjoy the buzz and excitement of signing a player from one of the bigger European clubs.

I was hoping for a big name signing. Musa could have been that. I understand why the new manager wants to take stock but if he knows his stuff the names that have been mentioned should be known to him and he should have an opinion. Lets hope he has a list of his own that Les can put into his black box. Crystal Palace has shown the way with what looks like good business. Leicester is certainly in the market. RK is flexing his muscles especially if Mata is on his radar. Redmond is a good purchase for us but lets get more quality names in sooner rather than later.

If you look up the meaning of "Dutch auction" you will see that it is the last thing the player or agent would want...
