Saints Look To Italy For New Striker Friday, 8th Jul 2016 07:30 With a Senegalese striker gone and an Italian one possibly going, Saints could be looking to combine both in one signing with the latest player to be linked. Khouma Babacar is a Senegalese striker who currently plays for Fiorentina in Series A and he is the latest to be rumoured to be heading for the South Coast. The media in Italy are reporting that his agent is heading to England for talks with both Southampton and Crystal Palace with a fee in the region of 15 million euros being quoted. This sounds a lot for a player whom could not get into the Fiorentina side much last season and who at 23 doesn't have the track record that warrants that sort of price tag. He has yet to win a full cap for Senegal and his record with the Italian club is not that impressive. At 6ft 3 he is more in the Pelle mode than Mane and when he first burst on the scene at 16 for Fiorentina he was described as the new Drogba, since then he has never really fulfilled that potential although at times he has had bursts of good form. Perhaps Saints will take a gamble at a far lower price, but at current exchange rates 15 million euros is not a fee to be gambled with.
