Koeman Incurs The Wrath Of The Everton Faithful
Friday, 2nd Dec 2016 11:53

Ronald Koeman has had a tough time of it lately, but he didn't think that the Everton fans would get on his back when he put up a post of his Xmas tree on twitter.

The jury appears to be out on Merseyside or at least the Blue half of it on whether Ronald Koeman is any better than his predecessor Roberto Martinez, but when the Dutch manager put up a picture of his newly decorated Xmas tree on twitter he didn't bank on the fury it would create amongst some of the more hard core Everton supporters.

These are people that don't like cutting themselves because they bleed red, so a Xmas tree with predominantly red decorations was going to raise the heckles of some of their extreme supporters.

Within minutes the die hard Everton supporters were taking to twitter to ask Ronald what the hell he thought he was playing at, as well as some more choice phrases.

Naturally there were plenty of comments from fans of other clubs notably Saints and Everton's rivals the Ex Saints FC or Liverpool as they are known on Merseyside, who delighted in seeing the extreme reactions from some Evertonians.

Indeed some even suggested that Koeman knew exactly what he was doing when he posted the pic on twitter, that he was getting back at those who had criticised him in the Goodison crowd by winding them up.

Koeman reacted by changing the tree decoration swamping it with over the top decorations but all in snowy white, it was hard to spot any Blue, but to be fair it was hard to spot if there was even a tree under the plethora of festive festoonery.

Koeman had the last word on the subject though saying

" I Think there are more serious problems in the world, than making a big story out of a #ChristmasTree"

The big question is though was Koeman making a statement in the first place and was the overall message the last one, that there are far bigger problems than a football team losing the odd game or two, not on Merseyside it seems.

Even though I'm over Koeman in respect of him being our manager, it doesn't mean to say I can't help but take some satisfaction from his initial great start faltering somewhat. It'd be nice to believe the grass isn't always greener and be a lesson to all that we're not just a springboard club to riches beyond imagination. It'd also be quite rewarding (if things went really sour) to see Everton using some of their less impressive war chest in paying off his ridiculous contract.

I really beleive he regrets his move - but also that Saints could have handled the contract side better.

Nice article. Just one point on Merseyside many Everton fans refer to Liverhampton as the RS. As you do not permit bad language I leave it to you to work out what that stands for.

If, as now seems the case, the club were indifferent and weren't prepared to meet his inflated wage demands or sacrifice their objective to bring youth through. So turned out nicely - ask Matt Targett , Dusan or Sadio how much they thought of Koeman
