Where Do Saints Fans Rank In Social Media's Most Annoying Fans
Friday, 3rd Mar 2017 11:26

Four Four Two magazine has done a survey on who they consider the most annoying set of Premier League on social media, the results are surprising, but where do Saints stand.

I will start at the top of the survey and the first surprise is that the winners are Arsenal, Four Four Two rate them as the most annoying across the world wide web, in the main due to their ranting about Arsene Wenger and our friends at ArsenalFanTV come in for a bit of stick here, but they are far from alone.

At number two is another big surprise , West Ham United ! The Hammers fly into the number 2 spot mainly for their arrogant rantings on social media in the belief that moving to a big capacity stadium would make them a big club, proclamations that Liverpool were their biggest rivals for a top four spot and that Zlatan Ibrahamovic would prefer them to Manchester United mean they are a shock entrant in the top 3.

Third up is the favourites, Manchester United fans seem to be born with an arrogance that naturally makes them gravitate towards supporting the Red Devils whatever part of the world they live in.

As 4-4-2 rightly point out it is easy to join.

How to be a Manchester United fan on the internet:

Step 1: Pick a handle like @SimplyMartial, @PogbaTekkers or @DangerousDeGea

Step 2: Manically discuss whether ‘Player X’ is better than ‘Prime Gerrard’ and decide that he definitely is.

Fourth spot is another shock, Crystal Palace get in there due to their attempts to convince the rest of the world and indeed themselves that they are now a big club because they bought Christian Benteke.

The next three positions down are fairly predictable, apart from the fact that there is a case to place all of them higher, Chelsea are 5th, Liverpool 6th and Tottenham Hotspur 7th.

Then we are surprised again, Stoke City hit 8th spot for their fickleness, they seem to change their views depending on results and FIFA 17 rankings according to 4-4-2.

9th spot is Middlesbrough for the fact their fans can't seem to accept that a mid table finish for a side just promoted is success.

Then comes the might that is Bournemouth who have that top 10 finish that they crave, just not in a league that involves football, 4-4-2 state that as a small club they have a relatively small online presence, however a run of bad results has seen a Howe out faction emerge and that gets them this high position.

The midtable selection is again fairly predictable, Everton are 11th due to the fact their online sites seem to be be realistic in their expectations, West Brom 12, Hull 13th and Watford 14th and then Leicester at 15th, even Jamie Vardy can't make the rest of the country hate the Foxes fans.

The bottom five has a surprise in it, at 16th is Manchester City, their supporters do not seem to have developed the arrogance and self righteous that their neighbours have, at least not yet.

At 17 no one can hate Burnley fans, perhaps because in that part of Lancashire they are yet to get video recorders let alone PC's or I pods, so their online presence is small and the little that is is not filled with bantz.

In 18th is Sunderland, again a club that although a sleeping giant do not seem to have the arrogance of their neighbours in the toon army who seem to think they have a God given right to be a big club.

To the bottom two and still no Saints, instead we have Swansea, nobody seems to hate them, even the Welsh aspect can't bring any sort of vitriol against them and they tend to keep to themselves on line.

So comes another big surprise, the fact that Saints at 20th are seen as the least annoying fans in the Premier Leagie on social media, we do not seem to have as many on line idiots as the rest of the Premier League, although I would tend to disagree with that at times.

This is what Four Four Two say about us.

You can’t really begrudge Southampton fans for gloating online. Every year they have their best players and managers poached, but Saints always find a way to come back stronger the following campaign.

Their team plays nice football, too, and the only notable Southampton TV pundit, Matt Le Tissier, is an all-round good bloke. There are a few accounts dedicated to how evil Dejan Lovren is, but we’re happy to let that slide.

Good job the survey isn't based on our songs. I couldn't care less about Portsmouth, never mind breaking the law by hunting down their fans. We haven't had a decent chant since the days of Papa Weigo.

And Wembley was a prime example of how our fans conduct themselves well. As Four Four Two correctly state every year we have to put up with the likes of Man U, Liverpool, Spurs and Everton coveting our players and coaching staff, but we always bounce back. It may be as annoying as hell to lose our best players, but at least it appears we are able to hold it together! I personally have learned to just ignore idiot opposition fans on social media. The grass isn't always greener and I'm pretty sure had we won on Sunday a few of our recent exports may have been wondering if the career moves they made were quite as progressive as they might have believed at the time.

Saints fans are probably among the most humble/least arrogant in the country. Most take the view we are ever so 'umble little Southampton, we know our place and are grateful for just being in the Premier League. For a club which gets the 12th biggest gates in the country and has the 10th largest number of fans on Facebook and Twitter, we are probably a bit too humble.

I think so Dirk. Hampshire born, Hampshire bred, strong in the arm but thick in the head!

I am with you there halftimeorange - the anti-Pompey songs are always dire and why do we even allow 4th division teams onto our radar? You don't hear Arsenal fans singing about Barnet.
