Gabbiadini Pips Harry Kane For PFA Player Of The Month Award
Friday, 10th Mar 2017 10:37

Yesterday we urged Saints supporters to get voting and push Manolo Gabbiadini ahead of Spurs striker Harry Kane in the PFA award for February, it seems that you all listened.

Manolo Gabbiadini has added another bit to the Saints record books after pushing Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane to runner up in what was a two horse race in the PFA Fan's Premier League player of the month for February.

With a little over six hours to go before the polls closed Gabbiadini and Kane stood neck and neck, our man on 33% with Kane on 32%, no one else was anywhere near. The margin then was was barely 500, hence our appeal for Saints fans to get voting.

in the end over 40,000 voted were cast, and the margin increased drastically with it seems most of them going to the Italian, Gabbiadini ended up with 16,226, with Kane second on 11,665.

That saw the Saints man poll around 41% of the vote and it seems a late rush of Saints fans pushed him over the line.

Usually in polls of this nature it is rare for a player from a club like Saints to take on and beat one from a so called big six team, the fans of these club's, in a lot of cases fans who have been nowhere near their team's ground, vote for their man out of loyalty rather than the achievement itself and so too often it just comes down to who has the most fans, not who has actually been the best player.

So this award is not just a win for Manolo Gabbiadini who deservedly won this for the way he has come in and transformed not only recent results, but the way he has affected the way the team plays, but also for the Saints fans, who showed that you do not need to be a top six club fan to get recognition for your players if you all rally round.

Congratulations Manolo Gabbiadini on this award, you truly deserve it, not only for your performances but for the way you have restored the faith of many Saints fans in their football club.

Not sure Kane even deserved to be considered as serious competition to Gabbiadini last month. The Italian lad was completely new two the "best league in the world" and to his new team and their playing style not only took the whole thing in his stride but quietly got on with the job he was brought in to do, score goals.

All Kane had to do was turn up at WHL and wait for Deli Ali to put the ball in front of him in front of goal.

It was a scandal that Ibrahimovic won man of the match at Wembley. Glad to see some small recompense here.

In advance of the Tottenham game on Sunday, it looks like Harry Kane won't make it due to having picked up a injury against Milwall. Now I'm not one to wish any ill will on an opponent but...thank you there is a God.
