Saints To Leave Premier League and Join Bundesliga
Saturday, 1st Apr 2017 09:00

Being owned by a family from Switzerland the UK pulling out from the EU was always going to be an issue for the Liebherr family, but they have now announced ambitious plans to take Saints to another level.

Saints are going to be undergoing their own Brexit in 2020 after Katharina Liebherr announced that she has applied to take Saints out of the Premier League and relocate them to the Bundesliga.

A club statement read.

" After the decision that the UK would leave the European Union Southampton Football Club has been carefully considering it's position in not only the Premier League but Europe in general.

We are a club that not only wishes to progress and win league titles but we consider ourselves truly European being Swiss owned.

Therefore we have taken a momentous decision and have served notice on the Premier League that we intent to leave in 2020 and join the German Bundesliga.

This will enable us to compete on the field given that Germany is only dominated by one team and not six and we envisage that we can qualify for the Champions League every year as well as challenge Bayern Munich for the title.

We have not taken this decision and after consulting a working party of Saints fans over a short period of time we discovered that what the supporters most desired was the chance to travel somewhere better than Merseyside or Manchester and to be able to drink copious amounts of strong German Lager whilst standing on terracing.

The Bundesliga has already agreed our application in principle and we envisage playing the likes of Bayern Munich, Hamburg and Kickers Offenbach in the 2020/21 season.

It is also a lot more convenient for Kat to get to games as the number fünfundzwanzig bus runs past her home in the Swiss Alps to around half of the German teams we will play.

Saints fans attending today's game against Bournemouth will be pleasantly surprised to see a range of German themed merchandise in the club store as the club aims to embrace the culture of the league they are joining, Lederhosen will be on sale as will those funny hats they wear whilst climbing mountains.

Another change is that beer in St Mary's will now only be served in Steins which hold just under two pints and hot dogs will be served in rolls that are too short for them.

These are exciting times ahead for Southampton Football Club and we look forward to cementing our place as a Teutonic Super Club. "

The announcement has had a mixed reaction amonsgt Saints supporters in a poll conducted on the Ugly Inside.

43% said they did not like Black Forest Gateau
21% asked whether they would be expected to yodel
14% were looking forward to wearing Lederhosen
77% were already singing songs about a Bayern Munich fan on a string
21% said Ve Vill ask Ze Questions
