Arron Sanders takes a look at the news that Saints have seemingly had a bid rejected for a young Polish defender.

According to claims in the Polish media, Southampton have had an offer rejected for Lech Poznan defender Jan Bednarek.

The 21-year-old has been linked with a move to the South coast in recent weeks.

Southampton have tabled a €5m offer with Lech Poznan, but this was instantly turned down by the Polish club. With the uncertainty over the future of captain Virgil van Dijk the club may need to bring in a central defender or two this summer.

The Polish U21 international is reported to be an option for the club.

Despite this bid being rejected by Lech Poznan the feeling is that the two clubs are getting close to an agreement.

On that note, that it’s being leaked to the local media so quickly would suggest this one isn’t dead.

Bednarek impressed last season for his club, which has brought him to the attention of Several clubs who are said to be interested in signing the young defender.

Only Southampton though, have put in a concrete bid in to sign him.

Certainly one to keep an eye on for fellow Saints fans.
