It's Six Pointer Sunday !
Thursday, 23rd Nov 2017 10:43

We haven't had one of these for a while, but it's back, after Black Friday it's Six Pointer Sunday, as Saints battle Everton aiming to put them firmly in the relegation dogfight.

Saints face Everton knowing that a win could see them in the top ten of the Premier League whilst defeat will see them staring the relegation zone firmly in the face.

But this is nothing new to us, we had a relegation battle in our first season back in the top flight five years ago and we came through that because firstly we didn't panic and secondly we th fans stayed firmly behind the team.

Many have short memories and talk of how the club has never been in such a predicament, but they forget that that 2012/13 season was far worse in the opening 3rd of the season than now, we were walloped in the opening games, Kelvin Davis was dropped because he was making far more mistakes than the under fire Fraser Forster and quite honestly we looked a shambles.

Nigel Adkins turned it round though and pulled us clear by January before being sacked, now we need to find the spirit that he found in his team back then, proving that sometimes things can be turned round.

We face an Everton side in far worse turmoil than us and to be blunt we are a decent tem, just poorly motivated and set out at present.

This is a big game for Mauricio Pellegrino and one which could decide whether he has any future at the club, the fans are fed up with seeing him do the same things with the same results week in week out, he has to show he is the man that we were told he was when he was appointed.

But in the meantime, Sunday is all about buying time, it is all about getting three points and making the gap between us and the bottom three wider, it is not about being entertained it is about getting the job done.

Everyone needs to be kicking in the same direction, fans players and coaches, make St Mary's a cauldron and then we can argue about what is going wrong in the bigger picture after.

100% agree. We can vent our frustration in forums such as this but on matchdays we must be 100% behind the team. I'd hate it if we started turning on our players like West Ham supporters are doing. If there is anything that would stop me from renewing my season ticket it would be that.

Agreed. We're not that lot down the road either. One of the things that stops me going is the lack of enthusiasm withing the crowd. Some people either don't know how to sing/get involved or are too embarrassed or shy to do so. Watching live is all about the emotion!

It is only a 'six pointer' if both sides are in danger of going down. I am tempted to say "Everton won't go down" and as we are at least as good as them we oughtn't to go down either but then I look at our goal scoring options and wonder how even Guardiola in charge would make that much difference...

You need nerves of steel to be a Saints fan.

Let us hope Everton have plenty of corners / free kicks against us. Apparently we are joint 2nd with Man U in conceding goals (1) from set pieces in the Premiership.

This game has 0-0 written all over it. A torrid Everton side equally lacking in confidence wont get close to scoring v us and likewise we wont get anywhere near past Pickford, a very decent goalkeeper

Well argued article and I agree. But...but...I went to Anfield, a 536 Mile round trip to support my team. A bit more application and hart would not come amiss on Sunday.

What has really changed since last time out except the loss of Romeu and possibly Davis? Sure they will be depleted as well and knackered to boot but we are nowhere near sharp enough to take advantage of that.

If Ward Prowse starts we really could be up the creek as he couldn't tackle a fly whilst Hoj is usually a headless chicken in pressure situations. There are few other options perhaps Stevens in there somewhere or Hesketh.

Score? We won't score, we don'y know how any more. They won't either unless Forster palms one out to Rooney.

0 - 0 but will that be enough to save the Water Carrier?

A win takes us to top half for a bit.Be bold MP . Try something new , win and you might just win a few back round.
