Vestergaard Says He Needs To Put Ego Away And Play Wednesday, 17th Oct 2018 12:40 Jannik Vesteraard has spoken about his frustrations about being out of the team, read what he has to say here. Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet quotes Jannik Vesteraard as saying “Of course, I was disappointed that I did not get playing time at the World Cup. It’s therefore a challenge to maintain motivation along the way. " Naturally, I have personal goals and ambitions with my career. And sometimes you may see yourself a bit better than reality reflects. I took part in fulfilling a role, and it is about overriding ego and my own needs. It is about tackling the challenge based on the principle that the team always comes first.” The only problem is that he is speaking about his 16 month absence from the Denmark team ahead of his first game time since June 2018 when he played the full 90 minutes in his country's 2-0 win over Austria. His words could equally apply to his time at Saints where after initially looking promising he has appeared to have lost his way somewhat and looked a lot short of being the domineering defender that Saints fans hoped that he would be. Hopefully he will be applying this philosophy to regaining his spot in the starting XI at St Mary's where he found himself 4th choice central defender when Mark Hughes reverted to a three man defence for the first half against Chelsea. Certainly we need him to do so and do so fast ! Photo: Action Images Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
