The rumour mill is saying that Saints are about to make a back room appointment and the man is Jurgen Klopp's previous assistant manager at Liverpool, but what role will he be fulfilling ?

Zeljko Buvac spent three years as assistant to Jurgen Klopp at Anfield and was credited with being a major influence on the German's firs three years at the club, indeed Klopp labelled Buvač as "the brain" in his coaching team, while describing himself as "the heart" and the second assistant coach, Peter Krawietz, as "the eye".

Buvac left the club due to "personal reasons" just before the end of the 2017/18 season, he has been assistant to Klopp at Mainz from 2001 till 2008 and joined him at Borussia Dortmund in the same role till 2015 when both moved to Liverpool.

His departure from Anfield is still unclear, however, it is believed he became unhappy on Merseyside due to coach Pepijn Lijnders’ growing influence at the club.

He is now being linked with a return to football with Saints as Director of Football, but equally he could also be offered a role on the coaching staff and certainly would have the experience that we desperately need in this department.

According to the rumour mill an appointment is imminent, the question is just what role will he be appointed to !

underweststand added 19:31 - Nov 24 If we are going to keep Ralph for a while longer, then this guy may be a good long-term investment as DoF (to start with) , then see how things settle. If he worked so long with Klopp then he must have some talent for coaching / managing.

With January looming fast I think the club needs to prioritise a Head or Recruitment too. Someone with a background in both recruitment and football/scouting. KriSaint added 09:22 - Nov 25 Klopp used to speak highly of this man. It would be very fair if we got something back from Liverpool for all the good players we have sold to them. So - sounds like an interesting idea to me. I say: bring him in! Ralph clearly needs some help.
