Chelsea Fans Demand The Recall Of Armando Broja ! But Saints Fans Need Not Worry.
Thursday, 21st Oct 2021 13:40

Armando Broja has made a good start to hic career at Southampton and is a big hit with the fans, but after injuries to both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, Chelsea supporters are demanding that Thomas Tuchel recall the loan striker to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fans have taken to social media after it was revealed that both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner will be missing for a period after sustaining injuries in the Blues win over Malmo in the Champions League.

Lukaku picked up an ankle injury, while Werner pulled up clutching his hamstring later in the game.

That leaves Chelsea short up front and some of their supporters have urged Tuchel to get on the phone to Saints and recall him from his season long loan.

That is something that would not go down well with Southampton fans who have taken to Broja's style of play capped by a debut Premier League goal against Leeds United on Saturday.

But they can breathe a sigh of relief after the Premier League loan rules became clear.

Premier League outfield players are only able to move clubs during transfer windows, even if being recalled back to a parent club from a spell on loan, with only goalkeepers allowed to swap clubs on an emergency basis.

But with Broja signed up at St Mary's for a season although Chelsea can request that Broja be returned to them in January, Saints are within their rights to refuse and keep the player for the entire length of his loan spell, that is also the case in the reverse situation, if Saints wanted to return him in January Chelsea would have to agree.

So Broja is going nowhere till January and it is hoped that by then Chelsea's striker crisis will be over and he will drop back down the pecking order again and not be needed, thus averting any chance of a tug of war between the two clubs.

"Saints fans need not worry!!" Well they could at the very least be very concerned! The only player on our books who seems to have the ability to find the back of the net is with us for a maxmum of just one season. The way Ralph plays you have to have a 'Danny Ings' type player and we should worry that we will lose the one we have got at the end of the season - so the problem of finding a goal scorer remains.
Our scouts did a great job last summer - so come on guys find us a couple of goalscorers and quick!!

As I read it Saints are fully entitled to say NO in January, so I can't see any problem what-so-ever. What is there to be concerned about?

Chelsea sold Abraham and Olivier Giroud in the summer window - their problem. WE will never have to pay the prize for that. Broja is ours til June 1. End of story.

As you stated Nick, Chelsea were keen enough to let him go and get match experience with us, but the rules are there for all to read. A season long loan is what it says, and if Broja continues to show up (scoring goals or not) then we still have a good deal. Indeed Chelsea has been a good source for Saints in the past with Ryan Bertrand, Jack Cork and Oriel Romeu all joining Saints as permanent signings.

This sort of deal shows exactly the difference between the "big clubs" in the Prem. and ...the rest of us. Chelsea is a good breeding ground for young players, most of whom never get close to a Prem. debut but probably end up on the bench in a cup tie.

They buy big name players and lose patience early with their young talents and in the last 10 years had let go players like Salah, De Bruyne and Lukaku only to have to fork out £90 million to get him back when he matured. A few years ago I read that they had .. 35 young players out on loan (!)

Whatever the outcome it maybe that these type of deals will be a big benefit to Saints.
