Southampton Injury News For The Trip To Liverpool
Thursday, 25th Nov 2021 14:00

Saints were missing 4 players for the trip to Norwich City last weekend, but it is hoped all of them will be back in the squad when the team travel to Liverpool this weekend, read on for more details.

At Carrow Road last Saturday Saints were missing Nathan Redmond, Stuart Armstrong , and Moussa Djenepo , it is believed that Redmond missed the game due to the birth of a child, Djenepo also had personal reasons and Stuart Armstrong's calf problem that saw him miss the first part of the season reared up again, also out was longer term injury victim Jack Stephens.

However it seems all are back in the fold after their enforced breaks and could feature in the squad on Saturday at Anfield.

It will be a boost to Ralph Hasenhuttl and hopefully give him a strong bench to pick from and thus offer options.

The Austrian had this to say :

"Jack Stephens is back in training. I am not sure if he is ready for the weekend but it's good.

"It's going to be tough for him to play, I like to give him a little bit longer. We have been easing him into it."

He continued: "Stuart is out, calf injury again. Moussa is back with us, Reddy also."

That looks like at least two will be back in contention and perhaps a third in Armstrong knowing Ralph's penchant for muddying the waters for the opposition.

With regard to Jack Stephens the manager is right, it is too soon yet for him to be ready for such a tough game and we have options in the centre of defence, Stephens may have dropped down the pecking order in recent weeks since being injured, but there will be chances as the winter sets in and injuries and suspensions start to add up.

Jack has only dropped down your pecking order me thinks... Lyanco must be pushing for a start ahead of Bednarek who doesn't look comfortable against aggressive strikers at the moment and has been at fault for a couple of pivotal goals against Wolves and Burnley at home where we dropped three points in total. Mccarthy and Bednarek need removing from the starting line up for me. The communication isnt good enough at the back and as Salisu is still the rookie it is the responsibility of his partner and keeper to show leadership and bellow. Forster and Stephens do this better.. Praying that Walcott isn't starting and Tella is unleashed as we'll be playing on the break.

Sorry to add... But I also feel that Livramento should be given a break for Saturday, he looks a bit weary and it's not fair to expect a big display against Mane who is on fire again. KWP and Perraud might be the best option and a good test for Perraud on Salah.

Problem isn't the subs being available and a stronger bench (let's face it, Redmond on the bench doesn't strengthen it) The problem is when to use the subs and knowing where to play them. If Ralph does the usual and screws up the 2nd half with dodgy decisions and tactically inept decisions, we will get double figured. Maybe we would actually sack Ralph then... seem that's the only way this joke of a manager will leave.

I appreciate I am at the risk of being accused of starting a conspiracy theory when clearly I have no real idea, so it is no more than a hunch and a gut feeling with no sound basis, but me thinks that S Armstrong absence both at the start and now runs deeper than an injury and I would not be surprised if he is at odds with the manager and/or club.

Redmond normally has a good game against Liverpool so i hope he gets on for at least half an hour .
I also hope he changes the keeper . And we have some good luck and praying for not to get dicked and perhaps a boring draw/win .

Billy the fish is on the verge of leaving Fulchester United - maybe Saints could put in a cheeky bid for him. He might just be the answer to our GK dilemma.
