Saints And Leeds Head To Head For Championship Striker
Friday, 28th Jul 2023 14:15

The revolving door is starting to turn at St Mary's and it seems that Southampton & Leeds United are about to do battle for the services of a Championship proven goalscorer, news that will please some Saints supporters.

Swansea City's 23 goal striker Joel Piroe is the man in question according to footballinsider247.com and it is a name that has been bandied about before.

Piroe is of course well known to Russell Martin, having been his manager just 3 months ago and it seems now Martin is going back to his old club again for the striker.

With just a year left on hic contract Swansea City are over a bit of a barrel and of course won't be pleased that their former manager, after taking most of the Swans coaching staff and also out of contract Ryan Manning is still coming back for more.

Piroe can play as an out and out striker, a winger and also a more central role just behind the main striker.

With 41 goals in 88 Championship appearances for the Swans plus 8 assists, he has a good track record in the division.

But Saints face opposition from Leeds United and will hope that the lure of working with Russell Martin again will be the deciding factor.

transfermarkt have his current value as around £9 million, so perhaps Saints would consider it good business to get him in at that price, although that would perhaps suggest that Che Adams might be going out of the revolving door at the same time Piroe is coming in.

One of Russell Martin's men who has a proven record at this level. No argument.
He won't cost the Earth ....so just pay the fee ( +500k) ... and get him signed ASAP.

If Martin wants him, pay the £! Good record at our new level, and can play across front line. I would buy another big striker, maybe Stewart, and play both, with Tella.

As the Nike slogan states - Just Do It
Absolute no brainer
Che to Wolves or Boscombe for what we can get, you’re welcome…
Don’t upset Swansea by putting in a low-ball offer otherwise they will sell Piroe to Leeds but not Saints
If they want £9m give them the money, don’t argue
If they want £9.5m give them the money, don’t argue
If they want £10m give them the money, don’t argue
Just Do It 👍🏼

This looks like a good bit of business. At the same time, having seen a few "Championship proven goalscorers" flop at Saints in recent years, I look forward to the day when we stop shopping for them.

Sports Republic have no interest in getting the club promoted. They specialise in owning lower European league football clubs to feed into bigger clubs. While the parachute payments sustain their business model they'll be happy but in the meantime the uncertainty around the team will diminish our football club.

They bought the club for half the market value and speculated against the market in the new year with a handful of random sightings which parachute payments will sustain but no quality signings are coming into the club m

Sports Republic are charlatans.
