Very proud to be voted Planet Swans Poster of the Year 2017 by my fellow posters. Especially on a site that nearly had 20 million impressions last year.
I don't want this to seem callous because when everything else is stripped away we're talking about the tragic death of a young mother, but why on earth has there been saturation media coverage surrounding her demise?
She wasn't a pioneering suffragette, a decorated female SOE operative or a code-breaker at Bletchley. Why the media circus? You would have thought the family would have valued privacy above all else this last week and would hate it being turned into a bonanza for grief voyeurs.
An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.
I remember being astonished at the time at the way the media, egged on by NuLabour let's not forget, lambasted HM for not returning to London straight away and wallowing in the madness. She chose to stay up in Balmoral with her grandsons where she could shield them from it all in peace, where they could grieve with dignity.
Remember this ridiculous performance?

It would have been like North Korea. Anybody not deemed to have been crying long and loud enough would have been reported!
Sad but true, old bean. A young mother is dead and two children are orphaned. This is tragic for the family. But (although I am the best part of a generation older than her) I fail to see the correlation between her standing in society and the grief expressed at her passing

It's all very strange.

I'm suprised by your high praise for pioneering suffragettes, trouble making lefties weren't they

I think Britain has become affected by celebrity so much that the media moguls know that a death like this will get the saddos tweeting etc So many have dull lives that they feel connected to others when something bad happens to the famous/famous-ish or those who have lavish lifestyles.
The false concern (dare I say "grief") that I've heard in work this week is incredible!!! Some had no idea who Paula Yates was and the classic line of "but she wasn't Peaches Yates " made me wonder why Jesus bothered to save us all 2000 years ago
