Thanks a good idea as an extra bit of kit.

Just got one of these in the end:

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lezyne-alloy-drive-trigger-inflator-with-co2-cartridge/

Not a replacement for the mini pump or floor pump but in case I get another puncture on the Carten or out at night, save all that effort, must have spent 15 minutes pumping like a muppet before I realized that getting any decent pressure was not gonna happen.

Pace - I heard last year was a nightmare as the wind was against you the whole time, I just hope the weather is pleasant this time round! Should be a good day anyway and all in a good cause

My new Boardman has the Presta valves on it, l prefer the schroder valves myself though, just had a delivery of two new tubes and two tubs of finish line lube from Chain reaction good service from them
fair do's.
Don't know why there's different types of valves myself, problem is you can't even change over to schroders because the hole in the wheels are to small.

I carry a CO2 around with me on my rides and its bailed me out a few times now. Just be careful no to release the CO2 too quickly from the canister. The gas is stored at a very high pressures and can come out at very quickly, freezing the valve, tubes, rubber seals and your hands in the process.

The tubes inner tubes don't hold the gas that well either and your tyre pressure will drop in a few days, so best just use it to finish off your ride and refill with a track pump when you get home.

Other than that, a great bit of kit and saves the hassle of dicking around with a mini pump on the side of a road in the rain.

It makes me sad when people start talking about training :( it's a bike, enjoy the freedom, the scenery and the sights.

Strava is a good tool but is abused by roadies pushing each other faster and faster. You see them on the front, head down, dressed like coloured pens trying to beat the last sectional and missing the amazing sights and sounds of the bay.

A family attempted a law suit in the US after their family member died, but it has been thrown out.

If you're out and about on a bike a lot you'll notice the strava crowd.

I altered the bars on my Boardman this afternoon, Halfords set them turned down downhill style played fuk with my back on monday, so got it sorted today along with seat, changed the geometry slightly, but it should be ok, probably make the run down from the top of the Foel a bit hairy, but it'll be fun,

Ouch could have been nasty.

For any bike maintenance I would recommend Schmoos. The bloke in there is fantastic and usually does stuff the same day. Has become my service shop of choice.

Bottom of constitution hill, opposite the Tenby. Was recommended it through other cyclists and have found it to be an excellent shop. Real personal service that is often missed.

When you say road bike what are you intending to use the bike for?

As others have said a hybrid is a good compromise but if you are doing or intending to da any distance on the road then a road bike/sportive is the way forward.

The cycle to work scheme run by most employers is an excellent way into cycling and allows you buy a new bike for about two thirds of the shop cost.

Buying a second hand road bike is a real gamble.

Life is an adventure or nothing at all.

Swansea Council dont do the cycle to work scheme anymore.

Do they do a bike set up/geometry service in Schmoos?

Any decent bike shop should ensure the bike is set up correctly for you and that it's the right size in the first place. I have several bikes and it takes a bit of time to find your ideal set up which you only get by riding the bike for a few hours.

Surprised that SX council no longer do C2W must be admin costs as the scheme is virtually free to the employer other than collecting payments and hmrc paper work. Got to beneficial in terms og health benefits for employees too.

I have lost the best part of three stone in just over two years almost all of that weight loss is down to cycling, currently do commute of 35 miles three times a week and a long ride on weekend great for the soul to get out in the fresh air.

Life is an adventure or nothing at all.

Fathy, I just bought one of these, as a first introduction to road biking, had mtb for a few years but not a road bike for a long time and I have to say it is an excellent bike for £299.00, all the bike forums raved about it, a great bike at the price and it's new!

I would assume they do Fath but have not bought a new bike from there so can't say.

Have used them for maintenance and advice. Always get a positive feeling when they are happy to give advice that actually talks you out of a pointless purchase. Can only say positive stuff about the service I have had from there...which is not the same for some of the other shops across the city.

I used Tredz last yr for repairs on my ol Specialised hanger broke and a few other problems, never again though overpricedand poor service, they tell me lodge cycle services are good, but a few of my mates are pretty handy when it comes to repairs, also the cycle centre up in Tonmawr run bike repair classes. Which might be an idea.

The route last year was testing to say the least, most of which but not all was down to the weather.

I think there is a cycle path on the new bypass so they may use that, last year we went around Carmarthen off the A40 and back into Whitland it was a series of steep hills and not very pleasant at about 60-90 miles.

It was one of those events where you felt you achieved something at the end, it was worthwhile and i raised over £300 for charity.

For all the crap that gets thrown around on here, posts like this show a lot of you are really decent people!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?
