True! I broke two of the buggers over the weekend. Didn't appreciate how brittle they were

Cross Cycles in Cross Hands is open today with a bit of luck so I'm hoping to pick up an adaptor or a new pump later

The Presta Valve on 22:24 - Apr 21 with 1172 views | jackmorsel | Just got back from a nice 30 miler had my first puncture tonight half way through, changed the tube no problem, but I bought a cheapskate pump and could I get anywhere near 80 psi in the fecker no chance....so a new bike pump is in order. Anyone used a CO2 cartridge pump? Any good? Knackered after trying to inflate the tyre tonight! I'm doing the Cardiff to Tenby run in a few weeks so need something better. Pacemaker....think I was on the train to St Gallen with you and your son? I was the one who started the beer round and got off in Zurich! Hope you are both well! [Post edited 21 Apr 2014 22:25]

Hi mate we are doing well, my mate and I are also doing the Carten 100 my second year last year was a killer! Make sure you get some hill training there are a lot of hills from Cardiff to Tenby. You will be lucky to pump 80 psi by hand, I have a mini Lezyne which allows me pump up to 50-60 I then generally look for a local bike shop to top up. My current bike takes 100-120 psi most bike shops will only put in 75 or so. Never used a co2 cartridge so no experience sorry. Hopefully see you on the day and have a well deserved pint in Tenby. Another thumbs up for the mini Lezyne. Keep one on my bike and is good if you have a slow puncture and need a top up, and is tiny and light. Am running 100/110psi in mine so need the JoeBlow to get hard (oh err mrs)

Definitely need to do a few more hills! I drove the route more or less yesterday, albeit in reverse as we came back from Tenby, and it is much hillier than I thought. I am getting a bit worried! I am guessing the last 20 odd miles from Red Roses is the killer? I wonder if they will let us on the new bypass, certainly saved a good 15 minutes in the car over the weekend. Will have a look at the mini Lezyne! I normally have mine up at 120 as well. See you on Carten.

The route last year was testing to say the least, most of which but not all was down to the weather. I think there is a cycle path on the new bypass so they may use that, last year we went around Carmarthen off the A40 and back into Whitland it was a series of steep hills and not very pleasant at about 60-90 miles. It was one of those events where you felt you achieved something at the end, it was worthwhile and i raised over £300 for charity.

The Presta Valve on 12:35 - Apr 23 with 965 views | Pegojack | I have a CO2 pump which I keep in my saddlebag for emergency pumping with punctures on runs, it works well on Presta valves and is nice and compact. I wouldn't use it for regular maintenance pumping though, too expensive in terms of cartridges, and not precise enough. I use a floor pump for that - bought off e-bay or somewhere for less than £10, an excellent piece of kit.
