£15 for our home friendly 13:09 - Jul 23 with 23979 views_

Why can't the club just once, just ONCE, turn round to the supporter and offer them a real gesture of good will and thank us for our loyal support.

£15 for a kick about in the sun...

And I don't care if every other club in England is doing it. It would be nice if our club had a different mentality when it came to its supporters.

Have they forgotten how many times they have messed up in the past - The Euro games for example.

They must be due another dividend soon i'd imagine.

Pathetic, Swansea City, pathetic.

You're all out of time....the past was yours but the future's mine.

So who thinks 15 quid is too expensive for a friendly? ?

If you're that bothered you should start a thread on the subject, and stop trying to divert this one

the grant from the (I think but not certain) Football Trust was only available for a 20,000 stadium - everyone pushed for 25,000 and they just wouldn't budge. Sorry - that's honestly the way it happened. We (i.e. the Swans) had no money to replace the grant if it was lost and no one else did either.

I can confirm that the 20,000 cap for grants is correct.
I also remember some pithy comment from Berwyn Price who was involved at the time about 20k being more than enough for Swansea City

one thing I would say - if people had known then what would happen it's possible that arrangements could have been made to try to find additional funding for preparing for expansion since there would have been options available. At the time it was a pipe dream and therefore avenues that now appear available just weren't (significant commercial sponsorship deals etc etc).

Or maybe being smarter with the design to make expansion better. Even if you're right on there not being one red cent left, and I'm not 100% on that, they could have been a lot smarter. Sadly smart and Swansea council don't go hand in hand.

The main thing I remember about back then is that the council simply thought 20k would be more than enough for ever and acted accordingly. They got it wrong.

But so did we at the time. What was it going to look like , 10,000 (max) in a stadium that would hold 24, 500.,which was the figure first talked about.

None of us, truthfully, expected to be where we are now.

True none of us expected us to be where we are. However I remember many of the arguments when it became clear the original plan of 25k were revised downwards and particularly when expansion was made very difficult. Even most optimistic never expected this of course!

You should start a thread about ticket prices for friendlies. That should get things fired up around here.

At the first meeting of the planners held in the 'gym' at The Vetch, that was true Clive.
The 'survey' on crowd numbers was carried out in Cardiff somewhere. Senior moments cloud my memory but the planners that were at that meeting said that currently a maximum of 10,000 was the above average crowds for The Vetch, and we're planning on those numbers.

Just before work started the capacity was reduced once again.
People should realise that at that time SCFC had...nothing but a group of team players. We are improving our lot each season but one thing is certain, and I know you'll agree....it takes time.

"We are improving our lot each season but one thing is certain, and I know you'll agree....it takes time."

No argument from me on this Lorraine, that's what we all want to see, and that doesn't always have to be reflected in the league position.
Still of the opinion though that the club to tend to try things without full thought.
Then again one mans (person sorry) positive is another's negative

There's always an option. It's not as if we bought £30m worth of sticklebricks mun. Sadly future planning isn't something Swansea Council, of any hue, does.

Oh and cheers Starsky. I was trying to remember of the councillors name. Some of us don't have you set to ignore

Wasn't Berwyn Price something to do with the funding body rather than being a Councillor?

Councillor I thought, but involved in project.

Funnily enough Labour fell from power not long after. I did laugh.

Aye, I remember that Swansea Council's LibDem led coalition was going to herald a glory age for the city. That ended well.

A liberal move to power ending disappointingly? Say it aint so

My opinions on Swansea Council aren't exactly high, as you may have guessed.
