There used to be far less negativity about the club / players / manager / transfers when we were really crap. God knows what it must be like supporting Barcelona if the same trajectory continues.

Depends what the club deems "astronomical". The way things are going this summer they'd probably swap him for Borini and a years subscription to Netflix.

You just have to ignore them or treat them like the comedy act they've now become. Accept that there are those who are actively hoping for the club to fall on its arse so they can say they were "right" and this place becomes less frustrating.
